Rodman A. Frates

President

Rod Frates graduated from Dartmouth College in 1958, and attended Virginia Law School.  He has assisted in the creation of numerous insurance companies, including

• Wellington Insurance Company for Humana Corporation,
• Physicians Casualty Insurance Company
• Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO)
• Hospital Casualty Insurance Company
• BancInsure, Inc., and Granite Re Insurance Company

Frates founded the C. L. Frates and Company Captive Creation and Management Division, C. L. Frates and Company’s Benefit Administrators, and C. L. Frates and Company Reinsurance Intermediaries.

He serves on the boards of Granite Re Insurance Company and BancInsure, Inc.  He is Chairman of C. L. Frates and Company.
He has also been involved in the aerospace industry as one of the participants in the founding of Earth Satellite Corporation, where he subsequently served as a director.  He is one of the founders of SpecTir Corporation, also a remote sensing company, and was instrumental in the creation of CosmosID, a bio-tech company of which he is Vice Chairman.  He started SAMDA Corporation, a water exploration company of which he is Chairman.

Rod Frates has served as Chairman of the Board of Frontiers of Science Foundation.  He has been chairman and is on the board of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation.  He is a director of the Kipp School, and has been a director of Casady School, the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Alan Guttmacher Foundation, and World Neighbors.  He has personally pioneered the application of remote sensing from Space in several areas, including archaeology.  He made the first archaeological discoveries using satellite imagery in the Yucatan Peninsula.  He is on the Board and one of the founders of Exploration Signatures, a company specializing in the analysis of multi and hyper spectral imagery.
