Customer Service Specialist
Job Description
- Positively influence client retention by meeting and/or exceeding customers’ on-going, day-to-day service needs.
- Proper resolution of telephone and written inquiries from members, providers and their representatives regarding all areas of benefit payments.
- Effectively manage internal requests for information in a timely manner, with a positive attitude.
- Process flex claims and HSA claims.
- Process overflow medical and dental claims as needed.
- Provide internal communications as needed.
- Other special projects/duties as assigned by the Manager.

- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively handle difficult customers/providers and heavy call volume. Good listening skills.

- Detail oriented, accurate and analytical.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and operate in a fast paced, high disruption and ever-changing environment.
- Ability to systematically analyze problems, draw relevant conclusions and devise appropriate courses of action.
- High level of initiative and motivation. Demonstrate initiative to increase knowledge and skills to keep pace with changes in business.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in work processes.
- Respond well to direction and require little direct supervision in completing duties.
- Ability to attend/conduct meetings outside the normal workday on an occasional basis.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word with at least an intermediate level of proficiency. Advanced skills preferred. Proficiency in Access a plus.
- Technical training, associate or undergraduate college degree preferred. High school diploma required.
- 3 – 5 years experience in the healthcare industry. Customer service and/or claims processing experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical, dental, flex and/or HSA benefit plans.
- Knowledge of PPO networks, provider contracts, compensation methods/structures a plus.
